1. Our commitment
Nyssara aims to make this website usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technologies or who navigate without a mouse. This statement describes what we are working toward, what we have done, and where we know the site still falls short.
Our target is conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.
2. Conformance target
We are targeting WCAG 2.1 Level AA. This covers a wide range of requirements relating to perceivability, operability, understandability and robustness of web content. We review the site against these criteria when we make significant changes.
3. Measures taken
The following practices are built into the current version of the site:
SEMANTIC HTML
Page structure uses appropriate HTML5 landmarks (header, main, footer, nav), heading hierarchy and semantic elements such as details for the FAQ and dialog for the cookie panel.
KEYBOARD NAVIGATION
All interactive elements — navigation links, form fields, buttons and the cookie dialog — are reachable by keyboard alone. Focus order follows the visual reading order. A skip-to-content link is present on each page.
COLOUR CONTRAST
Text and interactive elements meet a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 against their backgrounds. The primary green (#33513F) on cream (#FBF8F1) and the ink (#1B231D) on cream both exceed this threshold. Interactive elements carry visible focus styles.
REDUCED MOTION
The site uses no looping keyframe animations. Hover transitions are 0.25 seconds or less. Users who have set a reduced-motion preference at the operating system level experience no motion effects beyond immediate state changes.
ALT TEXT
Content images carry descriptive alt text specific to the image and its context. Decorative SVG elements carry aria-hidden="true". Icons used alongside visible text are hidden from assistive technology to avoid duplication.
LABELLED FORMS
Every form field has an associated label element. Required fields are marked with both a visual indicator and appropriate attributes. Error-prone fields include descriptive placeholder text.
4. Known limitations
We are aware of two areas that do not yet fully meet Level AA:
- Content images sourced from Lorem Picsum during development carry functional alt text but will be replaced with contextual, professionally described images in the final deployment. Some transitional alt descriptions may be imprecise until this replacement is complete.
- The Google Maps iframe embedded on the homepage is a third-party component. Keyboard navigation within the iframe is controlled by Google and may not meet all Level AA criteria. The iframe includes a
titleattribute for screen reader identification.
5. Feedback and reporting
If you find a part of this site that you cannot use or that does not work as expected with your assistive technology, please let us know. We read every accessibility report and aim to respond within five working days.
